ED&F Man are looking for a Commercial Trainee to join the Business Development team of our Coffee trading business division - Volcafe. This is a unique opportunity to join an established commodities trading house and have exposure to the commercial world from day one.
The jobholder will undertake a wide variety of activities supporting the Business Development Director in investigating and working on potential new commercial and business development opportunities and expansion projects across Asia.

The head office is located in Winterthur, Switzerland and they operate in over 20 countries globally; in coffee procurement, sustainability, blending and export as well as importing and distribution. Volcafe supply the world’s major coffee roasters and retail distributors with their green coffee requirements and hold significant strategic growth ambitions for the future.
Our ideal candidate will be a hands-on, proactive self-starter with 2 years’ experience in a relevant area, who is eager to learn and thoroughly understand the Coffee industry. The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator who effectively builds relationships at all levels, is able to adjust to change quickly and keen to take on new challenges.
We are a global company and this role will involve extensive international travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research new markets, regions and opportunities and provide insightful analysis and information to the management team.
- Creating presentation information and data for the team to use with business partners.
- Proof reading, drafting and checking proposals, memorandums of understanding and commercial contracts.
- Investigate potential projects, support in the identification and implementation of commercial strategies in order to grow the business.
- Assist in due diligence activity to ascertain viability of potential opportunities.
- Contribute to operational excellence within the organisation in a broad supporting role covering commercial, financial, quality, and legal and logistics activities.
- Establish strong relationships with customers and create new business as well as connections with industry contacts.
- Provide input into the development of the company’s coffee business strategy.
- Undertake feasibility studies, site visits and project delivery.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- A background in agricultural commodities would be beneficial; however a keen interest in the world of physical commodities is essential.
- High calibre degree in a relevant subject.
- A capable oral and written communicator who effectively builds relationships.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills.
- Complete fluency in business English and an Asian language.
- Flexible and adaptable; eager to learn and thoroughly understand the Coffee industry, able to adjust to change quickly and keen to take on new challenges.
- Self confidence, with the ability to voice opinions constructively.
- Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Entrepreneurial spirit. Generates ideas for business improvements and is able to implement them.
- Happy to travel internationally as required
