Singapore
Position Type
Graduate Program
Post Date
03 March 2014
Closing Date

Employer Description
Avaya is a global provider of business collaboration and communications solutions, providing unified communications, contact centers, networking and related services to companies of all sizes around the world.

Avaya is a 5B$ enterprise telecom company with its roots in AT&T, Lucent technologies and Nortel Telecom. Being a privately held company, continuous M&A of technology and software companies like Konftel, Sipera, and most notably Radvision, a leading video collaboration solutions company, have molded the company into its current state. Avaya competes in a competitive space with competitors like Cisco, Huawei, Siemens, Alcatel and others, and is leading the charge in a multitude of market spaces. Dominant market positions in collaboration, IP telephony and others position Avaya very well for the oncoming waves of Cloud Computing, Virtual Networks and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) which will continue to revolutionarize the enterprise telecom space.

Responsibilities
Avaya offers a 2 year assignment to a fresh, young and ambitious individual who aspires to get business experience in a real-life work setting, in a multinational global company like Avaya. The rotations will be in the functional domains of strategic sourcing (procurement) and transportation/warehousing. A technical background will be advantageous but is not an absolute requirement. Much more important are the right personal characteristics: willingness to hit the ground running, focused on real contribution, smart, sharp, perseverance, a solid amount of skepsis, a refusal to accept things because ‘that is how it has always been’. Affinity for numbers is required, and those enjoying the human psychology, wanting to learn real-life vendor relationship management, experience millions of  dollar negotiations first hand, will have a clear edge. Doing business requires understanding of the products, macro-economic developments, but more than anything else it requires people interaction requiring continuous challenge and compromise. Because every issue must get resolved, customers come first - always, and getting our customers their products on-time, at the right quality, at the right price, is the core reason for our existence.

In Singapore Avaya has a global strategic procurement team in charge of 600M$ in annual purchases, a team that has been completely rebuilt since 2011, and which has aggressively and successfully re-shaped the way Avaya does business with external vendors. On the warehousing and freight side the team has driven a major warehouse transition, and delivered on key performance metrics resulting in increased customer satisfaction, like delivery reliability and on-time delivery, as well as significant transport cost reductions.

Qualifications
People with BSc or equivalent degree or graduate degree from a local Singapore University, are only encouraged to apply. But if you don’t have this degree and feel this opportunity suits you anyway; give it a try. We appreciate confident people that go after what they want!
