BestTop has known Yifan since the university time. Her recent book “The World is the Best University I Have Ever Attended” and her amazing personal experience catch tremendous public attention. She has an impressive Resume: Singapore Government Scholarship, Masters in the renowned University of Cambridge and past working experience at investment bank. She is capable, humble, kind, down-to-earth, and willing to share. 

Singapore is sunny as usual, people from all walks of life are busy rushing for work, and Yifan used to be one of those busy figures. She worked for an investment bank headquartered in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, what made her different was the fact she not only helped raise S$150,000 fund for villages in Nepel, but also founded the Charity Committee within the bank. Bertrand Russell has said “Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life; the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.”- this is Yifan’s favorite quote. 

And probably because of the belief, Yifan notices investment banks might not be the place for everyone. This is perhaps something many students are struggling to realize- what is a true fit for oneself in terms of career. 

Do you know the “Burning Man”(黑石城火人节) at the Black Rock city? She should be the first Chinese who shared the experience in details. When you baidu/ google the term, Yifan’s blogs often jumped out as the first few searching results. She rendered a brand new explanation to Hippies. They are not the long-hair madmen who we imagine to be nomadic, drug and sex addicted. In fact, they are passionate about life, love to share and help, pursuing freedom and purity, and seeking for home for heart. 

During the interview, we realize that the SINCERITY is her philosophy during her grow-up.

Yifan is studying Mphil in Psychology and Education in the University of Cambridge. Education major for her is another “university” where she can further explore the world, herself, and moreover, how to live more happily in the world. 

It is a fast-pacing society. Facing the busy study, internship application, interview preparation and etc, should we also self reflect what is the REAL pursuit of in our life?

Of course, it does not mean everyone needs to walk the “Silk Road”, attend Harvard Social Entrepreneurship class and coach surf. Keep receptive and curious, and keep exploring ourselves are the best learning experience. 

Despite the busy schedule, Yifan is very willing to share with everyone her experience. Charity Painting Exhibition and publishing books are both to help more people.
