In collaboration with NTU Graduate Students and Alumni Career Network, BestTop has invited 3 distinguished speakers for Career Talk Series II. With a full lecture room of NTU students, Mr William Tan, Dr Tony Jin and Ms Clara Jiang shared first-handed job seeking processes, resume writing techniques and the importance of Social Media in job searching.

During the talk, William spoke from his perspectives of Director at Norman Search Partners. He emphasized the common stereotypes many people have towards Hiring Managers. And as Hiring Manager himself, he does look for 3P (Performance, Potential and Personality) when screening candidates! Other than that, by knowing the internal candidate selection process, students are also recommended to customize their resume to stand out from the crowd. This will certainly win a chance of interview at last.

Followed by William’s insightful talk, Tony (Co-founder and CEO of BestTop Consulting Pte Ltd) shared with students some practical techniques of resume writing. He emphasizes the mistakes most students made when writing their resume. “How to make your resume attractive and outstanding?” “What to do if you do not have any internship experiences?” “What is the suggested structure of a resume?” Tony answered the frequently answered questions raised by students during his talk.

Different from William and Tony’s sharing; Clara (HR consultant at Randstad) provided an alternative job-seeking approach to students. Social media, instead of just connecting you and your friends, is also an excellent platform to find jobs! During the talk, Clara gave real-life experience of how she landed a job through the use of Linkedin. She also advised students to expand their social network from time to time. “You will never know if the person sitting next to you is the potential hiring manager who will get you a job one fine day.” said Clara.

Newsletter - BestTop X Curtin University - Portfolio Management Guest Lecture

Portfolio management, what’s it?

Portfolio management is the centralized management of one or more portfolios, which includes identifying, prioritizing, authorizing, managing, and controlling projects, programs and other related work to achieve specific strategic business objectives.

To help students understands more about practical portfolio management, Curtin University has worked with BestTop to honorably invite Mr Chong Qijia, Portfolio Manager with Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia) Ltd, to share with students some insights and daily operations of portfolio management as guest lecturer.

The guest lecture was held on Thursday, 7 January 2016 with a big group of enthusiastic audience from Portfolio Management class (Unit code: INVE3001) from Curtin! Through this special arrangement, the students took home with the real life examples and techniques of security analysis and learnt to apply concepts to the management of equity and fixed income security portfolios. It will certainly add colours to their interest in the subject!

Students have also been given a great opportunity to raise questions to Mr Chong at the end of this session. This marks the success of this event and on behalf of Curtin University and BestTop, we thank Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia) for supporting this event and Mr Chong for spending his valuable his time with the students!

BestTop – Career Sharing Session with Master students from School of Accountancy

Many students are struggling to find a career path and direction to fit their academic background.  To help Master students of Accountancy. BestTop mentors were invited to share with the faculty for a career sharing session on 22 October 2015.

With this exclusive partnership, 30 students in Accountancy have separated into 9 groups to interact with mentors from BestTop. During the sharing session, students were given an opportunity to get first-handed insights from mentors working in Auditing, Banking, Investment Firms, Consulting and Advisory.

This sharing session aims to encourage students to understand the daily operations of working professionals and for them to explore prospective career paths available after graduation. Each group of students will take turns to meet with individual mentors for 20 minutes at a time. Upon the sound of the bell, students would have to transfer to the next mentor, until the group finishes the entire batch of 9 mentors.

All in all, it was a fruitful event to many students as they get to enjoy this rare opportunity of extending their network by meeting working professionals with similar academic backgrounds. BestTop would like to extend our appreciation for School of Accountancy, for inviting us for this event.

BestTop in Partnership with James Cook University Singapore - Career Talk "Land Your 1st Job in Singapore"

Students from James Cook University Singapore (JUC) came together for the career talk held on 28 April 2015 at its Sims Drive Campus to learn more on “How to land their first job in Singapore”, despite the heavy rain and thunder storm that evening.

This talk was organized by BestTop Consulting (BestTop) in partnership with JCU Singapore. BestTop is the founding service provider of customized career consulting platform in APAC. Founded in 2014, the company has a passion to help students and fresh graduates with career development and personalised coaching regardless of their backgrounds. Over the year, BestTop provides its services at an affordable price for all.

During the talk, Mr Mao Ning shared his daily job scopes as IT Consultant and some misconceptions about the industry. Aside from that, he had a personal touch of the topic by using his career path as a story to explain the importance of an internship and the techniques for international students to land their first job through an internship. At the same event, students also had an opportunity to hear the personal experience from Ms Sarah Wang, Bond Syndicate Analyst at Royal Bank of Scotland. Sarah highlighted her way to land a first job was not easy task. She had gone through stringent interviews and many rejections before getting what she has ever wanted. The process was tough but with a positive attitude and the power of networking, Sarah is now on the right track to success. “You will never know if the person you meet today may find some qualities in you and refer you for a job opportunity when the time comes.” said Sarah. 

Led by Dr Erin Zhang (emcee of the event) during the Q&A session, the speakers addressed burning questions of students and it marked the ending of event. BestTop would like to take this opportunity to thank JCU Singapore for this continuous partnership.

Building Your Dream Career Sharing Series 2 “Pave your way into Financial Industry” was designed to further provide students a networking exposure and give them various perspectives on how seniors in financial sector develop themselves into a successful individual. With this in mind, BestTop Career worked in corporation with Nanyang Technological University Graduate Student Council (NTU GSC) to organize and reach out to students at NTU. In the evening of Thursday, 16 October from 7pm to 9pm, three honorable speakers - Mr Saket Misra, Head of Coverage of Royal Bank of Scotland, Mr Mark Voumard, Executive Director and CEO of Gordian Capital Singapore and Mr Winston Tan, Managing Director of Corporate Broker International Private Limited came and shared their career path and personal experiences with students.

As part of the talk, a panel discussion cum Q&A session was held. Students were given an opportunity to ask some burning questions. Many students showed their concerns about job interview. Students were also keen to ask the speaker on issues relevant to job hunting techniques and career development in Financial Industry.

At the end of the event, exco members of NTU GSC presented a token of appreciation to the speakers on behalf of BestTop Career and NTU.

Charity: Andrew Grace Home ¬ formerly known as Andrew and Grace Home is a home for troubled teenagers. A Memorandum of Understanding was re-signed between Covenant Presbyterian Church (CPC) and Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) on 1 August 2010 to establish and manage AG Home, as a project and a full-fledged Residential Home for Teenage girls at risk. PCS is registered under the Charities Act 1982 and is a member of the National Council of Social Services. Our clients comprise of teenage girls who are either juvenile delinquents that are beyond parental control or are victims of sexual and/or physical abuse. Mission of AG Home is to love the unloved by reaching out to troubled youths and families and providing a temporary place of refuge so that lives may be restored, renewed and revived.
